creative metalwork
Shakespeare with a modern twist bought us this wonderful metal gantry set, designed by Francis O’Connor.
The creation of a metal ‘nightclub-style’ gantry with a central cage was built in our metal fabrication area by skilled craftsman. Detailed technical drawings and structural calculations were created in house then checked and double checked throughout the build ensuring that the gantry not only looked as designed but was safe and built correctly. This was large heavy pieces of metal. Actors came along to try the trap door system to ensure it worked for movement in the production and we even walked dogs over the metal mesh floor as part of the planning.
This gantry became s a central part of the production being used consistently throughout, with actors climbing down fireman’s poles, being caught in the cage, jumping out the trap door and even using the metal as part of the percussion in some of the musical numbers in the production.
The ‘noisy’ craftmanship of metal fabrication which ultimately creates a beautiful piece of scenery furniture that catches the eye of the audience from every angle.
